Overcoming Learning Difficulties

As a coach, I have had the privilege of working with many children and teens who have struggled with various issues throughout their years of development. One of my clients, Amy (not her real name), was a bright and curious child who struggled with learning difficulties from a young age. Despite her best efforts, she found it difficult to keep up with her classmates in school. She would often become frustrated and discouraged when she couldn't understand a lesson or complete an assignment.

Her parents noticed that she was having trouble reading and writing, and they decided to seek help. They took Amy to see a specialist who diagnosed her with dyslexia, a learning disorder that affects the ability to read and spell. The school referred her to me for coaching. I began by addressing her needs and stress, bringing her to a state of coherence through techniques such as visualization and mindfulness exercises.

Amy began to learn strategies for managing her dyslexia. She learned how to break words down into smaller parts, and how to use visual cues to help her remember the correct spelling of words. She also began to use assistive technology, such as text-to-speech software, to help her read and write. Over time, Amy continued to face challenges in school, but with the help of her techniques of coherence and resilience, she was able to overcome many of her difficulties. She learned how to take notes more effectively, how to study in a way that worked for her, and made friends.

Despite the difficulties she faced, Amy never gave up. She worked hard and never let her learning difficulties get in the way of her dreams. She graduated high school and went on to attend college, where she discovered her passion for psychology and received a degree in it.

Another client, Jenny (not her real name), was a high-achieving student who had always done well in school. However, when it came time for her to take her college entrance exams, she began to feel a sense of dread and fear. Despite her best efforts, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was going to fail.

Jenny's fear of failure was so intense that it began to affect her sleep, her appetite, and her ability to focus. We did an intensive session to address her trauma and helped her to imagine increasing her inner dignity, inner strength, and poise. This helped to create more stability in her life, and her undesirable patterns began to disappear. On the day of the exam, she experienced a sense of calmness and was able to finish the exam and submit it.

In the following sessions, we dealt with her coping mechanism where she had stressed about waiting for the results to come back. We were able to help her understand that no matter what the outcome, she had done her best, and that was all that mattered.

Throughout the years of coaching sessions, I have used a variety of methodologies to help children and teens like Amy and Jenny overcome their difficulties. From addressing needs and stress to visualization and mindfulness exercises to coping mechanisms and inner strength, I have helped my clients to understand and overcome the challenges they have faced. They have learned to manage their difficulties and never give up on their dreams.

Both Amy and Jenny's cases demonstrate the importance of addressing the underlying issues and stressors that can impede learning and personal growth. Using techniques of coherence, resilience, and addressing coping mechanisms can be crucial in helping children and teens overcome their difficulties and achieve their goals.
